Adding a New Outdoor Climb to KAYA

We have done our best to include all the popular climbing areas, but we know we haven’t covered it all. Yet. Since your favorite climb might be missing, we have added a flow that allows you to add any climb in the world to our database, including first ascents. Here's how to add a new outdoor climb to KAYA, the climber's app:

To add a climb that doesn’t yet exist in KAYA, please follow these steps:

Step 1: From the landing page, tap the search icon at the bottom of your screen.

Step 2: On the search page, in the top right corner, tap on the black circle with a “+” icon.

  • Enter the name of the climb

  • Select “Outdoor boulder” or “Outdoor route”

  • Our system will perform a check to see if your climb already exists.  Check out the list and see if someone beat you to it!  If you don’t see the climb you are trying add, click “Continue”

  • Select the Grade

  • Add in the location information:

    • Country

    • Destination - This is the major climbing area where the climb exists (examples: Red River Gorge, Rumney, Hueco Tanks, or Fontainebleau)

    • Area - This is the main area where the climb is located (example: If the Destination is Hueco Tanks, the Area could be North Mountain or East Spur, If the Destination is the Red River Gorge, the Area could be The Motherlode or Drive-By Crag)

    • Sub Area - Sub areas are mainly found at bouldering destinations (example: If the Destination is Hueco Tanks and the Area is North Mountain, the Sub Area could be the Warm Up Wall or Terminator Area)

    • Description - This is a basic description to help others correctly identify the climb.

    • Add Photo - Add photos to help others visually verify the climb!

    • Tags - If you want to add additional data to the climb, you can apply tags for Movement, Grip Type, and Footwork.

    • Angle - What’s the angle of the climb? Is it a roof? A slab?

    • RIC - This is a common routesetting metric used to track the risk, intensity, and complexity values of a single climb.  If you’re not familiar with the RIC scale, you can skip this step

  • Click “Save Climb” and your climb will be added to the database!

Adding photos or videos when creating a new climb goes a long way in helping others identify the correct location and start of a climb - so if you have photos, be sure to include them!
