How Are Points Awarded in KAYA Challenges?

KAYA CHALLENGES ARE SCORED IN ONE OF FOUR WAYS. Below are the different types of scoring your challenge may use:

ABSOLUTE SCORING:

Scores are calculated on a linear basis based on grade. Ex: V1=100, V2=200, etc.

RELATIVE SCORING:

The competitors’ score is directly related to their handicap (registered max grade).

Designed to allow all users to compete regardless of skill level, scoring is based off of the climber’s self-reported V-Max (a grade you can do in 5 attempts on a regular basis)

  • 100 points will be given for routes you complete at your V-Max grade

  • 10 additional points given for every grade above that

  • 20 points subtracted for climbs below your V-Max

  • Optional: 1 point will also be deducted for each attempt at a climb.

CUSTOM SCORING:

Allows the gym to assign custom points to each climb.

VOLUME SCORING:

Each climb is worth 1 point, regardless of grade or climbers’ ability level.
